IEE Member Companies to Receive Majority of Smart Grid Investment Grant Funding

October 27 - President Barack Obama announced the largest single energy grid modernization investment in U.S. history while visiting Florida Power & Light's DeSoto Solar Energy Center, funding a broad range of technologies from smart meters, in-home displays, and transmission and distribution infrastructure. IEE member companies have been awarded 30 grants (of 100) totalling $2.24 billion, or 65% of the available federal funds, from the cost-share grants.

This is a significant step forward for both the federal government and the nation's utilities to help more customers make wiser decisions about their energy use, while allowing those on the supply side to understand how electricity is consumed in real time.
