Institute for Electric Efficiency Member EForum:
The Benefits of Behavior-Savvy Energy Efficiency Programs
The IEE would like to thank its members and Dr. Karen Ehrhardt-Martinez for an informative presentation and discussion of the human and behavioral dimensions of energy use throughout the energy community. Dr. Ehrhardt-Martinez's presentation discussed 1) the ways in which social and behavioral insights can improve energy-efficiency and demand response programs, 2) provides some examples of these programs, and 3) discusses recent research that documents the surprising scale of potential energy savings from behavior-savvy programs and policies. The findings suggest the need for an industry-wide re-conceptualization of energy-efficiency and demand response programs toward the implementation of people-centered strategies.
